Product Description

All natural ZeoSand weighs half as much as its volume in sand yet is twice as effective. The crystal structure, irregular shell, and high surface area make it a highly effective trap for fine particulates and ammonium ions compared to sand. It takes less ZeoSand to fill a filter - 50 pounds of ZeoSand replaces 100 pounds of sand and makes a far more effective filter media. ZeoSand improves your sand filters performance by trapping more dirt and particles decreasing back wash time. ZeoSand removes eye-burning chloramines so you can enjoy superior water quality while saving energy and reducing chemical usage.

Working so far but HAS to be pre-rinsed

Working so far but HAS to be pre-rinsed
I have a Hayward S244T Sand Filter which requires 300 lbs of regular filter sand. I decided to change the sand, and after doing some research, I decided to switch to ZeoSand for the claimed benefits of greater filtration, longer life and reduced media quantity. I was very hesitant after reading the other reviews about pools turning green, but went ahead and ordered 150lbs of this stuff. It arrived in individual 25 lb bags and I'm glad it did because, again after reading other reviews, I took the time to "pre-rinse" EVERY BAG by pouring each bag into a 5-gallon bucket and running hose water through it.I am EXTREMELY glad I decided to "pre-rinse" this stuff. The amount of silt/dust in each bag was INSANE (see posted pictures). I rinsed some bags for the better part of an hour, stirring the sand the whole time, and never got it completely clear. The rinsing process also made it much more difficult to get the zeosand into the filter because I couldn't just pour from the bag. It also dramatically increased the overall time necessary to completely replace the old sand.Yes, I could have just poured each bag in the filter and done an extended backwash, but other reviewers said they had done so and still had bad results, so I opted to rinse each bag individually. Again, GLAD I DID!Once all the bags were rinsed and put in the filter I still did an extended backwash, which was still dirty, but did eventually clear up.All off that was over a week ago and I'm happy to say, my pool water never turned green and is now very clear (see picture). I ended up ordering and adding an additional 2 bags of zeosand this weekend, to make up for all the silt and sand that rinsed out while I was "cleaning" it. So all in all I ended up replacing 300 lbs of sand with somewhere between 150-200 lbs of zeosand. I definitely recommend ordering a little over "half the regular sand"So far, the pool looks great and only time will tell if this stuff was worth the effort necessary to use it. I probably could've replaced the old sand with "regular" new sand in 1/4th the time, but if this stuff ultimately works better and lasts longer, it will be worth the time I invested rinsing it.I will try to remember to do a follow up review after I've had more time using this stuff.Again, To echo other reviewers MAKE SURE YOU RINSE BEFOREHAND or I can totally see how this stuff could turn your pool green initially.TO THE MANUFACTURER of this stuff: You could do your customers a HUGE favor and DRAMATICALLY increase customer satisfaction by simply rinsing this stuff BEFORE you put it into bags. It would save your customers a ton of time and/or frustration and would remove a lot of negative feedback on your product.....

We have had a sand filter system for 3 years and my pump died..took 10 days to get a new one and she turned GREEN!! I actually got Zeosand by mistake thinking I was ordering regular sand for my replacement, so I was warry!! But man am I impressed!!! My pool is so much cleaner. You must backwash a few times when first changing over to Zeosand, but once you do it is awesome!!
Be patient it will be cloudy for the first day or two but then bam!!! Super clear!!
